Disassembly of a Mercury Smartcraft Connector
These instructions and photos are courtesy of bigbasser54 from Bass Boat Central.
I recently added a smartcraft SC1000 system monitor to my 03 225 Opti. I had to run the blue data cable through the boat and back to the motor as my Opti was smartcraft ready but not yet equipped. The end connector is kind of bulky to be fished through the boat so I took a few minutes to disassemble the connector so it could be run through tough spots like in the boat and the rigging tube. I used trial and error to disassemble the connector and here is the procedure I used thought it may be helpful to others to post:
VERY IMPORTANT: TAKE PICTURES OF WIRE LOCATIONS, OR DRAW A PICTURE OF WIRE LOCATIONS BEFORE REMOVING ANY WIRES FROM THE PLUG! SEE STEP #5
1) I disassembled the engine end of the connector.

2) Pull down the black plastic conduit:

3) Use a small screw driver on both sides to remove the purple cap from the end of the connector:

4) Using a small screwdriver unsnap both sides of the wire guide to expose the wires then pull the wire guide down:

5) VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!! Take pictures or write down which wires go into which hole on the connector
6) Using the small screwdriver pry open the little tab locks that hold the wire ends in place, then pull the wire out from the back of the connector.

7) Repeat step 6 for all wires. Once the last wire has been removed the connector/wire guide/plastic conduit can be removed from the cable.
8) I taped up the ends of the wires to protect them, then taped them to a wire fish that i had previously fed through the boat as necessary then pulled the cable through the boat and rigging tube.
